Throw The Bums Out

Democrat, Green, Independent, Libertarian, Republican, Undecided. Listed in alphabetical order lest you become consumed by partisanship.  I have resisted the lure of commenting on this Presidential election season woefully devoid of robust policy debate(Et tu, 4th Estate?) because quite frankly I didn’t want to dialogue about “Shady” Clinton and “Crazy” Trump, Unregulated Private Email servers gone rogue and Misbegotten Pu**y.

They say you get the government you deserve and if that’s the case, America it’s time to wake up and get to work!  As we the people, we’ve patronized Trump and made him money and elected Clinton for public office. If a revolution needs to occur it has to start with you and me.

Has anything you’ve seen this election cycle consistently addressed the real concerns most Americans face?  People’s lives tend to center on the basics: do I have food, a place to live, a job, am I free and safe, the environment, education, affordable healthcare with some fun and love to sustain us.

I am in no way demeaning the complex issues and effort it takes to govern.  Put a bunch of folks in the room and there’s bound to be dissention on how best to solve our problems. But is this really the best we can do?  How can I make an informed decision if I have no means to make a side by side comparison of the problems and actionable solutions each candidate proposes?

Regardless of who you vote for, that is your unique and individual power as a citizen. You, the people, vote in your elected officials.  But don’t stop there.  Once they’re in office, check in with them, see how they’re handling the job.  And if you don’t like what they’re doing, let them know.  Even better, make suggestions.  Troubleshoot.  Hold their feet to the fire like you would a mechanic working on your car or a plumber to fix the sink.

Too much time, too hard you might say?  Make it easy on yourself.  Start by following one topic of great significance to you.  Those tax dollars they take from your paycheck every week actually go somewhere.  Follow the yellow brick road, it’s your money.
